What is Alpha High’s Bootcamp?
Alpha High’s eight-week Bootcamp helps every freshman build life skills through 18 challenges, with Guide coaching, feedback, and opportunities to practice until they demonstrate mastery.
Alpha High’s Bootcamp is an eight-week program that every freshman completes at the start of the school year. Through 18 challenges, students practice public speaking, problem-solving, working independently, and receiving feedback. Guides coach students as they build a shared foundation for high school.
Who takes part in Bootcamp?
Every Alpha High freshman participates, including students who have attended Alpha since elementary school and students arriving from other educational environments. Bootcamp gives students with different experiences a common starting point for the school’s life-skills curriculum.
What do students learn?
Students take on demanding challenges that ask them to communicate clearly, solve problems, work independently, and use feedback to improve. Each skill ends with an objective test and a clear outcome, so students know what they are working toward.
What happens when a student does not pass a challenge?
Students have unlimited opportunities to try again. They apply what they have learned and keep practicing until they demonstrate mastery. Guides provide coaching and support throughout the day, helping students meet high expectations while learning how to respond to setbacks.
How does Bootcamp prepare students for high school?
Bootcamp establishes the habits and practical skills students will continue to develop at Alpha High. Working through challenges together also helps students build relationships and confidence. The program is the beginning of their life-skills learning, with deeper work continuing beyond the first eight weeks.
