Education has always been a central part of Willem’s life. His mom has owned a preschool for over 20 years, where Willem began working part-time at age 14 and later worked full-time while earning his Master of Education (Ed.M.) from Rutgers University. Those experiences sparked his passion for education and showed him the impact a great learning environment can have on young people.
Before joining Alpha, Willem taught U.S. History, IB Economics, and AP Government at the high school level in New Jersey, where he also coached soccer and wrestling. His passion for helping others grow extends beyond the classroom through his experience coaching youth soccer, jiu-jitsu, ski racing, and personal nutrition.
As Lead Guide of Alpha Malibu, Willem loves helping kids challenge themselves, build confidence, and discover what they’re capable of, both as students and as people. He brings that same enthusiasm for growth and adventure to his own life through martial arts, ultramarathon running, surfing, and skiing.
